During this years' National Coding Week, we're making the NetAcad course Programming Essentials in Python available for anyone. The Programming Essentials in Python course, is two courses rolled into one student experience: Part 1 - is focused on procedural programming principles; Part 2 - extends this, developing the students' understanding of object oriented programming. Both are linked to optional career certifications.

Community Testing of PT-Anywhere during June/July 2020 The Open University, in collaboration with Cisco Networking Academy, created PT-Anywhere - a remote, HTML5 version of the Packet Tracer simulator. This offered students and teachers the opportunity to use Packet Tracer without installing anything on their desktop computers or smart devices as part of an integrated learning experience. Funded by the UFITrust, the course Discovering Computer Networks was created and released late 2019,  hosting 28 different remote Packet Tracer based micro-lab activities. The OU are now working on improving the experience for vision impaired students, ensuring that the technology will work with commonplace operating systems based screen readers and NVDA . Since its launch on 28th April 2020, roughly a month ago, The Skills Toolkit brought thousands of participants to the Cisco Networking Academy Programming Essentials in Python course. Today, the Government added a few new courses, one of which being the Discovering Computer Networks: hands on in the Open Networking Lab . Developed by The Open University with Cisco 's support, and funded by Ufi charitable trust , it's a great starting point to learn about networking. Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet announced today they are now affiliated with Cisco Networking Academy. Talent and skills are increasingly important in today’s fast paced digital economy, hence NetAcad’s portfolio of courses and delivery flexibility can benefit Ireland’s workforce. ICT Skillnet will be making several self-paced courses courses available to (a) existing information technology professionals wishing to upskill (b) those migrating from associated disciplines and (c) those currently job-seeking and interested in pursuing a career in the technology field. Networking Academy students can earn a digital credential in the form of a badge for completing a course with a minimum standard of performance. Badges are digital assets that communicate a learning achievement and serve as a student level credential. Networking Academy badges are issued and verified by Cisco. Each badge includes ‘metadata,’ a detailed description of the subject matter covered, and what was required to earn the badge. Read more here .

In the UK and Ireland, four Cisco ITC's have joined forces. Creating the Summer of Love concept. This is a collection of Instructor Training courses supporting all teachers from all backgrounds. Their plan was to offer this before Covid19 became a reality. However, as events overtook us, they have pushed forward their plans, extended the collaboration and improved the offer: 1. CCNA1v7 is being offered by Kapilan@UWTSD - first start, 1st May, second start 1st of June! 2. CyberOps is being offered by Tom@TU:Dublin - commencing mid May. 3.
